The Moment That Sparked It
A couple of years ago, I was exploring Islamic home finance because I wanted to buy a house in a halal way.
I searched Google for terms like “Islamic home finance” and “Islamic mortgage.”
One of the top results was a paid ad from a major bank. I clicked through… and landed on their standard mortgage page, with zero mention of Islamic finance or halal options.
After 1–2 hours of searching, I still had no clarity. That experience stayed with me.
What Was Wrong With That Experience?
Wasted time & energy — Finding value-aligned options shouldn’t require hours of digging across search results, forums, and social media.
Misleading ads & misinformation — Some companies target Islamic keywords without offering halal products, creating confusion and distrust.
Fragmented discovery — There’s no single, reliable hub to find Muslim makers, products, or businesses — everything feels scattered and outdated.
Trust gap — As Muslims trying to live by our values, we need confidence that what we’re finding actually aligns with those values.
The Idea
If I was struggling to find halal, value-aligned options, others were too.
What if there was a platform built for us, by us?
That question became the seed for Muslim Makerspace.
